The 6th Grade Advantage at
The Alva School
Starting middle school is a big step—but at The Alva School, sixth graders don’t have to leave behind the community that helped them grow.
Our K–8 setting gives students the opportunity to experience the independence and expectations of middle school while remaining connected to a warm, welcoming community. More than half of our sixth graders have attended Alva through elementary school, creating a strong sense of belonging and continuity.
We combine academic excellence, high expectations, and caring relationships to help every student grow, succeed, and feel known.
A Community Where Every Student Belongs
Five Houses. One Community.
Every student belongs to a House—Dutari, Tumaini, Ascendia, Maravu, or Fortivo—where they build relationships, develop leadership skills, and live out our S.H.A.P.E. values: Service, Hope, Achievement, Pride, and Effort.

The K–8 Advantage.
Sixth graders gain the independence of middle school while staying connected to familiar faces, younger students, traditions, and the culture that makes The Alva School special.

Roots in Alva.
Our agriculture and FFA programs connect students to our rural community while building responsibility, teamwork, leadership, and real-world skills.
Teachers Who Know the Journey
Our sixth-grade teachers are dual certified in K–6 and middle-level subject areas, giving them a unique understanding of both elementary foundations and middle school expectations.
This connection between elementary and middle school is one of Alva’s greatest strengths. Our teachers know where students have been, where they need to go, and how to help them get there.

Schedules Built Around Students
Sixth-grade schedules are carefully designed around individual student needs, using state assessment data, academic performance, and parent input to provide the right level of challenge and support.
Support That Makes a Difference
The transition to middle school brings new routines, responsibilities, and expectations. Our dedicated support staff and House mentors help sixth graders build organization, confidence, independence, and self-advocacy.
Students have trusted adults who know them, support them, and help them navigate both academic and social challenges.

Student-Friendly Electives
Sixth graders have opportunities to discover new interests, develop talents, and build confidence through a variety of engaging electives and activities.
🎵 Band & Chorus
Our music programs give students opportunities to perform, collaborate, and grow as musicians. The Alva Band has earned Superior ratings at district competitions, and students have opportunities to participate in Disney music academies. Chorus builds vocal skills, confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
🌱 Agriculture & FFA
The Alva School is home to the only middle-level FFA program in The School District of Lee County. Students combine classroom learning with hands-on experiences in The Alva Barn while exploring agriculture, sustainability, farming, and the role agriculture plays in our community.

🎨 Art
Students explore both 2D and 3D art while developing creative skills, artistic expression, and an appreciation for art history. Students also participate in community and district art events and family Paint Nights.
🏃 Physical Education & Health
Students build fitness, teamwork, movement skills, and healthy habits while learning about nutrition, wellness, and how to care for their bodies.

🌟 S.H.A.P.E.
Students develop the organization, study, time-management, and goal-setting skills needed for middle school success. Through Xello, service projects, and leadership opportunities, students begin exploring their interests, goals, and future possibilities.
Beyond the Classroom
Intramural Sports: Basketball, volleyball, cross country, track, tennis, golf, and soccer give students opportunities to compete, build friendships, and develop teamwork.

After-School Clubs: Students can explore their interests through clubs such as STEM, cooking, 3D modeling, book club, Spelling Bee, Jazz Band, Chorus, Art, Math, Fellowship, Yearbook, Debate, Fishing, and FFA.
